hey everyone, so i got the OK from the wife to buy my friends 90 gallon tank, its comes with everything: rock, coral, fish, lights, sump, skimmer, ATO, ect ect ect, everything. he told me this morning that i should come by today and pick up the RO/DI unit, and start making water tonight, and all day tomorrow, and on thursday we'll break his tank down, and move it over.

    My question is this:

    1. Is this a good way to do this?

    2. What are the likely hood that everything will survive? (we only live like 20 minutes apart)

    3. his set up is a bare bottom tank, no sand or anything, could i purchace some and add it while we set it back up without messing with anything?

    4. does all the live rock need to be "re-cured" ? and if so, what should i do with the fish in mean time?

any and all advise would be great, cus i am gettin it, the window of opertunity closes pretty fast with the ol lady... haha

    thanks everyone

    1) yes, make sure the water is as close as the tank temp and salinity. as you can get it
    2) if you are really 20 mins apart and you dont throw your fish from one house to the other the chances are 100% (use a bucket or do multiple trips if you have 2, also what fish are they?)
3)i am a HUGE fan of live sand, go for it! try to go to your LFS and see if they are willing to give you a cup of their live sand to seed yours
4)no, as long as you put them in buckets with enough water to keep the rock alive (its very much like a fish)

    bonne chance!

P.S test your water to keep track of it, it never hurts and do WC if needed.

Just make sure everything matchs pretty close and save some of the water from his tank. which you will have to anyways because of transporting everything.

also: what i would suggest is to add the sand B4 you add the water. this is to avoid having a cloudy tank with sand messing with your filters (i have done this mistake) what you want to do is make your sand bed (for it to be effective it should be about 5 cm thick. then add a plastic cover over it, fill the tank half way, gently remove the cover, seed the sand with the live sand from the LFS,add the rocks (make sure to inbed them well in the sand), finish filling the tank, test and add fish.

i would go for the yellow tang if you have to add a "big" fish both might be 2 much. would be intresting to know what lights you have for the clam and keep in mind they are not that hardy

its a light that hangs from the celing, it has metal halides (sp?) LED's, and T5HO. Not a clue what type/brand this fixture is, but you would go blind looking at this. hes got it all set up on a timer so its legit.
