yeah, seems a bit off to me, especially the fact that a filter seems to be useless to them too.. IDK about this one.

plain and simple a filter will have many benefits like discussed, a place for pods to flourish, a place to hide a heater, takes away the need for a powerhead, adds a small amount of water volume, which does help. need I go on?::)

lol! nah, an airstone can do all that! plus it will help coat everything above it with salt so ya have to clean it every other day!

boy this thread has gotten out of hand! so much for me to catch up on!

first off, the seahorses i keep are H. zosterae, the dwarf seahorses, if you knew about them you would know that i could probably confortably house 3 pairs in a 2 gallon tank and i would probably still have difficulty finding them.
as the babies are only a few millimeters tall, the adults max out at an inch, at most.

next for the nano with a filter. i did not say that it had negative effects. i simply said on a tank as small as these, i know i have only had small tanks like these for quite some time now and know quite a bit on them, a filter is not as important on a pico as it is on a much larger system. i do water changes two times a week on my tank and i have tried filters before, i still have to do biweekly water changes to keep params in check.

i am not insisting upon this, i am sinply sharing my experience and opinion. i a not here to argue.

i find this post quite offensive, and in my eyes it makes you look exceedingly childish and immature. obviously you dont know much about pico tanks, they are much different than even nano tanks.

nor are we! but filtration is always important. there is really no denying that. if they have a filter and it adds to the volume as well as over all health of the tank there is no reason no to do it.

i am fully aware that it is important, i am just trying to get through that on such a small tank a filter is not as necessary as on a large one. in my opinion its just an extra pain in the butt.

in my eyes the only thing a filter does is make the time between water changes longer for us so we dont blow all our money on salt, and if it barely lengthens the time between water changes i dont find it necessary. a filter is good advice i cannot deny that, i am just saying it is always an option on a pico to not filter. theres alot of beautiful pico tanks out there that dont use filters.

i recall seeing one tank that didnt have a filter but instead they did a 100 percent water change every other day. 100 percent! crazy.

where did i say he was putting up a seahorse tank? i set up pico tanks with seahorses for a business, i have also set up several pico reefs at the request of customers. i have set up too many to count and i have alot of experience with them. i have only used a filter one 2 of them at the request of the buy and both filters were tiny canister filters.

i guess in my eyes as well adding a large sump onto a tiny tank just takes away the whole idea of a pico setup. i see that as cheating, in a way. as bizarre as it may sound. but in my experience it has been the most effective method to just do water changes. maybe not in other peoples experience but that is what this forum is for, people to express their opinions and past experiences.

Really? What's this post say about you, that a little "lol" turns you into calling people names and making brash assumptions?

Now back to the thread! My apologies to the OP!
