Things were going great on my new 110 Gal build, the rock is cured, sump/fuge running great, skimmer broken in, and all my levels were perfect. I woke up this morning and wouldn't you know it, my water is all cloudy, looks like someone poured a jug of milk in the darn thing. I checked my caulerpa in the fuge to make sure it didn't go asexual and it looks good. I have no fish in my tank just a couple of leather coral frags, a longspine urchin, and some snails and they are doing fine. I haven't tested my water yet today, I'll do that after work. Is there any chance that something on the live rock coming back to life might cause this? anyone had cloudy water appear for no apparent reason?

Your tank might be fairly new and you might have a bacteria bloom. Or your urchin or snails might have spawned.

If you can put up a picture, I can help you more.

My water was milky saturday morning when i woke up, but it was because an anenome got sucked up into a Koralia 4 and was obliterated by the prop. Unlikely this is your cause, just sharing some experience.

got any tube worms in there? I had a milky tank some years ago and the feather dusters had spawned - when they do this they drop their feathers - so they dont consume/ filter out their own off spring

My water went cloudy once the next morning, bacteria bloom i think something to do with when i added calcium to the tank and precipitation, think thats how u spell it, anywho had to get the mag up first so it could hold the higher levels of calcium...

Mine was cloudy last night when I got home from work!!
Not like milk cloudy though. I think mine may have been a bacteria bloom.... I could see the little pieces, it was like there was snow falling in the tank. I haven't dosed anything since I only have LR and my Fiji Blue Damsel in there so I know it isn't calcium precip.

Are our tanks all talking to eachother and revolting?? I have no idea but my fish is just fine. I cleaned the filter on my skimmer really well and left the canister alone for now...

Snow falling in the tank does not sound like a bacterial bloom to me. It really sounds more like calcium precipitation. Even though you don't supplement, do you know what your calcium/magnesium/alkalinity were at before your water went cloudy?
