I just got a skimmer for my tank. It's a suncoast, made just here around the corner. One of the stores here use them in their tanks and they seem to work really well.

But they don't have a manual. So I don't really know how to set it up. I mean, I put it in the sump of course, but I'm having trouble adjusting it. I opened the air intake completely at fist and turned the skimmer on. Then I closed the air intake a little until there were bubbles on top of the water in the skimmer. When I close it more the bubbles go higher, but they don't seem to be stable. The level kinda goes up and down. I can also adjust the outlet of the water. I can pull up the return pipe and by that make a higher water level in the skimmer.
Maybe somebody here can help me and tell me how to adjust a skimmer.

    Thanks, Yvonne

hmmm.. Every skimmer is different. Any difference in how the store has it set up and yours?

yeah, I went there this morning and took a look at it. They keep the foam level pretty low, I will just try it like that and wait a bit. Let's see what happens ;)

    Sounds like a plan.
    Can you post a pic?

Curious to see what this skimmer looks like.

    Yvonne,

The operation of that skimmer sounds a lot like a Nautilus skimmer that once ran.

Try opening the air intake fully and listening to any change in the pump noise, if starts to make a growling noise turn it down until the growling just stops. Then adjust the return pipe until the water level in the skimmer is just below the riser tube that is in the collection cup. You may have to run itb this way for a week or so until you see foam starting to enter and go up the riser tube.

    John :)
