Hey all, i'm currently building (for the second time ::)) my sump/fuge. I threw away all my sand and now i need to put some back. My temporary tank has been BB for a couple of months now. So my question is, If i add new sand in the tank and the fuge will it go through a big enough cycle to endanger my inhabitants. I will use most if not all of the water in the temp. tank so i will only be adding about 10 gals of new SW (for the fuge/sump).

So any ideas or tips on how i should proceed. Im open to just about anything to avoid a cycle.

    Thanks. :)

If it is new dead clean sand it will take a few week to a month for the sandbed to start working but since it was not live sand there should be any ammonia spike or such to worry about.

If you were moving an established sandbed you would have to worry about it.

It will be new sand. I could get a couple of pounds of LS to seed it though. Should i run both tanks at the same time for a little while i.e Setup the new tank with water and the new sand. Do water changes with water from the old tank, but keep all the LR and corals in the temporary tank until everything is ok in the new tank?

Yep that sounds like a good idea.
