So I have some rock in the tank that over the past few months have been having strange brown leafy stuff that look like mushrooms you would find growing on a tree trunk. And I have noticed that it will slowly move on to other rocks and was thinking about taking them out and bleaching them to make sure the problem is done with.

Question is how do I do it correctly?

    3 days bleach water soak
    3 days fresh water soak
3 days baking soda water soak
    3 days fresh water soak
3 days drying before going back in tank
rinse rock well between each soak

Thank you for your help but not sure how concentrated the mixtures should be that is now my only question.
    And no I can't really take a picture because I don't have a camera.

You can use a 50/50 bleach mix

I always used say 5 gallon of hot water with 5 cups of bleach. soak overnite. drain water. let air dry for a day. soak in 3x dose of de-chlorinated hot water again for 24 hours. let dry 1 day and rinse/soak again in de-chlorinated water if you smell any bleach.

main thing is getting rid of the smell before you think about putting the rock back.. of course do this over a weeks time is probly a good idea.. usally for me 3 days max.. havent had any problems.. but i use like 1/2 bottle of prime or other water condiitoner.

A 50/50 solution is a lot of bleach. I usually just fill up a bucket and poor in some bleach without measuring. Probably about a cup's worth. Put the rocks in there for a couple of days until it looks like the rock has bleached. Then poor it out and rinse it really well under hot water. You can basically have fresh water pouring into your bucket for 5 minutes or so. Empty it out again. Fill with new water and add dechlorinator. Let it sit overnight. Keep rinsing the same way adding new water and dechlorinator every night for about a week. Make sure you can't smell any bleach on the rock when you are done.
