Honestly, you could grow zoa's in a toilet if you added water and a light bulb ;) About the easiest coral you could get. Lighting/flow depends on exact species, but in general moderate for both works very well. Normal reef parameters are fine with them. They do not need any type of special supplements, nor do they need to be fed. Just place them and enjoy!

They would make a perfect starter coral! My biggest patch I have started as a single polyp that hitch hiked on one of my 3 pieces of LR I used to start the cycle. They survived the cycle, 2 months of the stock PetCo hood lighting, an anemone death/crash, and a time when something foreign made its way into the tank and nearly caused another crash. They are definitely tough corals! ;)

does it require any special spacing between them and other zoos'. like does it have any defense or attacks with other zoo's if they are too close when they grow..

No, you can pretty much place them right on top of each other. Their defense will mainly be to try and overgrow/block out light from others. No actual stinging or chemical warfare.

Here's a pic of my mixed colony - they seem to like each other just fine! No special care required. I have 5 or 6 colonies of zoas and I just place them where I like them.

Keep them wet and add some light they will take over the tank all by themselves sooner or later. I had my wife to just pull a Rock with a monti and acro on it to scrub a couple of these pest off last week , Just cut up a softball sized green birds nest to get at a purple mushroom out of the center of this coral myself this past Saturday .
