Cleaning it very well with white vinegar and water will be good enough unless you've EVER used copper meds to treat your FW fish in it. Don't waste your time then because the copper has been absorbed by the silicone and will leach back into the tank and you won't be able to keep corals or inverts.

It might be worth getting a new tank.Sometimes Petco sells tanks for $1 a gallon.Get it drilled for 20$ at your LFS and Bam invert safe tank.

Unless its a real big tank of course.

Myth: Cured silicone will not absorb copper. Making it impossible for Cu to leach back in to a system. I have tested this over a month last summer. This is just another one of those "he said she said he said" myths that got spread around without proof.

Your rocks WILL absorb and leach Cu though.

As for cleaning the tank, bleach will work as well as vinegar and water. I like using bleach because it costs less to use on large tanks compared to vinegar.

I know they eat all that stuff and are aggressive. I need to know what i can get to clean my tank. My tank looks horrible because there is nothing in there to eat the algae. Will a star fish be okay?? When I bought my trigger it was in a tank with a star fish.

    Thanks for your help:)
