Well then I don't really think you are going to have a problem. Let us know in the summer how your temp is.

ok, so you didn't have a thermometer?
now, you say you don't have a heater?

And you have how much money in fish/corals in there?

How hot is your house that a T5 is rasing the temp that much?

What are you gonna do if your furnace croaks? that tank could get real cold real quick!

Pgood asked if he was running a heater or just normal tank set up! And he said just normal set up! Just saying, he didn't have a thermometer!

Im just curious how his tank is that hot with no heater?

82 degrees is actually not too bad. Last summer my tank got up to 94 degrees. Of course I was worried but all my live stock lived through it. I just kept freezing bags of water and putting it in the sump. I never saw the temp drop from doing that but maybe it stabilized the temp at least. I've tried fans but they never "seemed" to work at least. Since it was just blowing hot ambient air. LOL

Ok, so what is considered a normal set up? That could be anything.

If my tank is staying at 81 in winter why the hell would I need a heater?

You need one because you want to avoid temp swings. If your tank is 81 degress w/o, then it will probably never come on, but it will help. That way if for some reason the heat stops working in your house, your tank water will stay stable.
