You can start with tap, I did. I would look into getting a phosphate remover to clean up your water and then do your water changes with your RO water.

You can get some PhosGuard, it's what I used to get rid of my phosphates. You just place it in a filter media bag. It took about a week for me to really get rid of all of my phosphates in my 29 gal. Or you can look at a phosphate reactor. Here is a link to where I get all of my stuff from. They are a great dealer and I haven't had any problems.

I have never seen it at walmart, it every LFS I have been to has some kind of phosphate remover, usually several to choose from.

With my 29 it took along time before I was able to get the phosphate out. Even with sponges it took a while, I threw on a cheap ATS and it corrected itself in a few weeks.
Thats just my experience, but I do recommend it to anyone whos willing to try it.

But yeah routine water changes and if you added a phosphate sponge or reactor would in time take that stuff out too. Anything can be fixed... just might not be as quick to fix as it was to break :)

Yeah, that and some time. You can go ahead and continue on your regular schedule with your tank. If you start to see an algae outbreak, make sure you keep on top of it with some manual removal. It may seem like a pain at the time but if you keep up with it, it will do wonders at keeping the algae at bay.
