how to frag an acan

Hey guy's I have a rather large acan colony that I am thinking about fragging in order to trade other local reefers for either other types of acan's that I dont have or just other pieces of coral in particular that I dont have

My pronlem however is that the acan colony is roughly 70 heads so I really need a good idea about how too cut this puppy up in a way that

1) my main colony still looks good

2) all of the frags look good

3) I dont kill anthing as an acan is one of the few corals I have never fragged before

if I need to my buddy who owns reefs edge has a diamond blade band saw that is specifically designed for cutting stony corals but I have never used a band saw for the sole purpose of doing this so is this going to the best way of doing what I want or is there a better option??

My understanding is that the band saw is the best way to go due to less heat from cutting and less stress on the coral.

 

I assume that I would just try and cut between the polyps and try and not go through or cut off a piece of a polyp as it may die right?

 

Ideally yes. I have bought some favias where the polyp was cut and it survived so I wouldn't stress too much if you do cut a polyp.

I like to frag the mother colony all around so i try to make it look more circular. do not cut thru the mouth. If you do they will have a pretty low change to live. keep the fresh frags in the same tank and conditions that the mother colony. Make sure the saw has water and doesnt run dry.
