I was thinking about setting up a 30 gal. for a green spot puffer tank. I know that when you buy them at the lfs they are freshwater. I have had them before but they died, no one told they were brackish. so should i start out with a low salinity or set it up strictly salt and slowly aclimate them? help!

I had these before I switched over to saltwater. Great fish. I kept one in a 10gal and kept the sg around 1.008. I think that equates to 1tbsp of salt per gallon. They stayed happy in this mixture and I never had a problem.

See if you can find a lfs that will do the switch for you?

I forgot to ask, did you want to keep one in a full saltwater tank? I've heard it's possible but I never tried it myself. Apparently you're supposed to start them off in a brackish solution and then very gradually raise the salinity over time until it becomes completely saltwater.

I don't think so, but let someone better qualified than me give you a positive answer on that.

ok I will ask my lfs but i doubt it they are lazy. And when doing a gradual change should i up the sg like from 1.008 to like1.010 or maybe do more or less?

Yeah, just do it with your regular water changes. Like I said, I've never done it before but I heard it's not too difficult.

Or you could go for a straight salt puffer.
I dont believe live rock or sand will live at 1.008
