    They do have "easy outs" they are kind of like a reamer and they have sharp edges that fit inside the broken piece to grab it and twist it out. May be able to get one in the tool dept. of lowe's or the home depot, maybe even the rental dept..
    You could also make one if you have some scrap steel around and a file or grinder? just cut a piece slightly wider than the inside diameter of the broke piece, sharpen the edges a little, pound it in with a hammer and then twist it with some pliers.

    You dont even really need to sharpen it but it will help if you can.

    went to lowes and picked up a pvc nipple extractor. got the job done in 2 seconds!

    thanks to all who chimed in with ideas -- and hopefully if anyone else has this problem they can use the info here!
