HI, I was thinking about making a sump for my 28g nanocube. I want to put in my stand which isnt very big (maybe about 1.5 feet by 1 foot.) whats the best way to do this with pumps and everything?

Any help would be nice considering I don't know a lot about sumps

    Thank you;D

All you need is a 10g or 15g tank since you cant fit a 20g long under the stand. A return pump(size is depending on your overflow and how fast it flows) a rio of MJ should work possibly. Acrylic dividers for different parts of your sump(fuge? skimmer, return). Some PVC tubing to connect to DT and sump.

If i am missing something, my bad..But if i am maybe someone else can fill in.

And for the overflow, i would say yes..Cant really have a sump unless you have a overflow.

Do I need to buy an over flow at the store for like $80 or is there a cheaper method?

In the stand will be tough,i don't even think a 5 gallon would fit in there, and for the overflow, yes, you will need one.Could a tank be put on either side of the tank?

your best bet is to wait for things from craigslist or on here. But when you do make the sump out of a 15 gallon or so use class baffles. A glass shop will charge you about 4-5 dollars a piece and thats for 1/4" glass. Looks for a u-tube style over flow. Thats what I used to have and never had to worry about it loosing siphon or using an aqualifter to keep air out.

    Emphasis mine.

The pump doesn't need to match the overflow, at all. It can be way bigger, or way smaller, than the overflow's rating. Any return pump should be attached to a ball valve and turned down if necessary anyway.

I'll just point out that making one yourself will not be cheaper if you don't have experience working with acrylic.

Alright cool. Is there any size pump that would be the best for a 10g sump. I might put it on the side of my tank.
