So got the 90gallon tank and built the frame and structural support for the stand. I have the tank filled with water on the stand in the basement to do a leak check and make sure the stand is sturdy enough.

Being drilled through the floor of the tank I did connect the Durso standpipe with the gasket on the inside and nut on the outside, used absolutely no thread or pipe dope what so ever on the side with the nut, pretty sure youre not support to right? Since it is not connected to anything I did not fill the tank the entire way and shoved towels in the pipes to leak test the pipes, seems like that U from the top of the intake does leak a little but it is my understanding that this is ok and we do not want to glue this as it would make future removal and maintence impossible.

How do you connect the underside of the bulkhead to the sump? I read you dont screw anything onto the outside of the bulkhead as thsoe threads are for the nut of the bulkhead only and are not watertight. Do you just press a pipe into the bulkheads? Im assuming if this is the case it will leak and needs to be glued? If thats the case for future adjustment possibilites I would like to just glue a small piece of PVC into the bulkhead and then have some sort of union or threaded end on it that the rest of the pipe would connect too allowing me to disconnect in the future if needed.

Lastly, do you usually have t he intake pipe go underwater to prevent splashing noise or does that affect the flowrate?

zThanks for the Reply, Im thinking a glued in piece with a threaded end to go to a thread gate valve for the intake and a glued piece with a threaded in and a check valve for the return and then from those the pvc plumbing with as many unions as I can fit lol.

To disconnect my bulkhead from the rest of my plumbing, i planned ahead so it only requires a saw to separate them. ;)

I don't know why, but I've read somewhere not to use threaded. The true union is like a compression fitting so it's easy to remove. I think you can also use threaded instead of compression.

You can just stick the pvc into the bulkhead. There shouldn't be enough pressure to cause it to leak or pop out. Even if it does leak, it's minuscule, unless the bulkhead is cracked.

I don't glue. If you ever need to replace, remove the bulkhead or perform maintenance, you'll have to cut the pipe. Your idea works too. I took the lazy route. lol
