Not sure what Leeching is... but if you are talking about the build up on pipes, hoses and other items above the water of your tank or sump... I have been messing with the same prob and been doing a lot of reading on it.

Evaporation is everything...water is going to evaporate no matter what, but if your volume is like mine...about 4 gals per day...you can slow that down. many things u can do for this which I am currently messing with and have already slowed it a lot. also make sure all of your seals on your plumbing are air tight. If you get a salt "ring around the collar" on any joint in the pipe, there is a leak. small leaks like this seam to be huge at collecting the salt build ups..even if you can't see water coming out with your eyes...water coming out in a very fine mist into your lights is very easy to evaporate.

Also try cooling your lights down using computer fans. I also have read a lid helps...but only going there for a last result...i hate doing windows...lol.

how violent is the water coming out of your overflows...lots of weird plumbing tricks you can do. 1 cool thing I just did which was huge...not sure if there will be any reprocutions yet because was suggested by my brother who is an engineer and not into the aquarium hobby....
my overflows were extremely noisey do to the amount I am kicking through them. He and I hung some nylon cord from the top of each overflow (we played with thickness) and let it run through the pipes out into the sump about 5 inches. this quieted the tank by about 30% was incredible...he will have to tell you all the physics mumbo jumbo but in a nut shell it gives the water something to travel on...it was amazing the difference.

hope this helps, I am interested to hear other tips myself.

I too am puzzled as to what you mean "leeching"! If it is salt creep, try to cut down on the amount of air bubbles and splashing in your tank and sump. Unfortunately, it is inevitable and you are only going to be able to minimize it!

I have never really thought about it, but I seriously doubt there is any way to stop it. Just one of those weird things that happens over time. Its annoying but oh well. I'd be interested to see what others have to say about this.

Well, there are some ways to cut down on salt creep. As was stated before it's all about splashing water. Evaporated water does not hold any salt, but small splashes do then evaporate and leave salt behind. If you can say exactly where you are experiencing the problem I may be able to give you a hint or two from my years on the sea.
