Well just got word im deploying yet again for 6-8 months in a lil over 2 months... Now i have to figure out a way to teach my S.O. everything i know and do to my tank before i leave and am a lil worried. Besides feeding shes pretty much clueless but that being said shes not a "Blonde" in the least lol (sorry if i offend lol). Has anyone ever had to do this before with a limited time frame? Im thinking about making how to videos for everything then posting them on youtube so she ref them whenever she needs too lol, seems like a lot of work but i wanna come back with my tank intact. Any Advice is welcome.

I think how to videos would be best! You may consider having a trusted local reefer temporarily hold any sensitive/expensive/hard to care for fish, corals, or inverts. have no idea what you have in your tank, but it would be much easier to maintain a fish with just a few fish and corals vs. full blown reef tank that requires regular testing, water changes, and/or dosing.

Thanks for your service. I went in the first Desert storm. Since I got out my unit has gone back over 5 times. Glad I got out.

+1 to videos and you should introduce her to 3reef so we can help when needed and thanks for your service! The multiple deployments made it an easy choice for me to get out, glad they are off the 12-15 month deployments though

I would find someone that can help out while your away. Show her as much as you can, and do the videos. I would also try and make things and easy as possible for her. If its hard for her to lift a 5 gal bucket for water changes there probably not gonna happen...

So just an update i have been making videos for her that pertain to each separate piece of equipment that i have...i have also set up an ATO to help her out as well. I have also enlisted her assistance in daily and weekly maint and have had her perform each task without my assistance...we are getting there and having a good feeling we will be just fine...
On another note went to the LFS the other day and she happen to find a fish that she wants more than anything....an Achilles tang...i had a chuckle or two and bought her a plate coral instead lol
