how to tell between a smithi and a peacock

    how can i tell if i have a g. smithi or baby peacock mantis? ive had him for about 5 months sofar

    lol well the way the tank is set up for the little guy i cant with all the algae growing:( ... hes is like a critter tote in a tank sorta thing.. his tank is in the middle of being set up... he had a tank and it leaked so hadda start over :(

    smithii have the purple spots on each smasher arm. and peacocks get way bigger than smithii i think the smithii max size is like 3 or 4 inches and the peacock can get up to 7 or 8 inches. if that helps at all

    O. scyllarus is the easiest thing to distinguish. They will have leopard spots on the sides of the carapace like you see in Incognito's pictures. Some retailers will tell you small ones dont have the spots yet, but this is false. They are trying to sell you another species (usually G. chiragra). O. Scyllarus develop their trademark spots during the plankton stage.

    Ok ill hafta look closer ttonight and see what I got.I actually got him not knowing wich speciies he was.he was about half his current size and very hard to see his distinguishing characteristics other the he was green with red on him
