I received a nice rock covered with gsp.It was shipped cold with no heat pack,It's been 3 days in my tank the mat is still deep purple and closed, but no signs of polyps peeking out.Does anyone know how long they take to open?or how to tell if it didn't survive the trip?

Put it in an area of good flow and light. As long as the mantle is purple and not turning black/disintergrating the colony is alive. It may take a week for them to snap out of it and start to show.

If you check in between the cardboard pieces, you should see the heater packs.;)

    Good luck.

I really doubt it is dead, GSP is the hardiest coral I know of.

After I frag it, a few pieces come out the next day, a few others can take a week. Be patient, sometimes it can take a while.

sometimes sediment can block the pores so a blast over with a power head for a few seconds can encourage previous no shows to come out again

my bad jonjon,I didn't see the heater packs(i was so excited,i didn't even look!)But it's such a nice peice that it has me worried it won't open. And Steve,i'm gonna blow it off with a powerhead this morning as it does appear to have some sediment on it.I was thinking this is a hard coral to kill,so i'm just surprised that it's taking this long.Everyone wish me luck!;)

That is real suprising. I've had it shipped to me wrapped in chaeto in a ziploc bag, with no water, no heat pack, usps priority and have it live.
    Sorry for your loss.:(
