Sorry to all. This is my third post in a week in the ASAP column. Your attention is appreciated though. It turns out my two attempts at siliconing have failed. Not utterly, just mostly. So I am making one more attempt within the hour here. If it holds great, if it doesn't....off to Petco.

That brings me to my question. If I have to do this, I am going to transfer all rock into a garbage can with water from the system. No heater. Corals and fish will go into another 30g garbage can with a Korilia and a heater. The remaining water will go into buckets.

Now. Sand. That is my biggest worry. I have nooooooo idea what is living in my sand, but I imagine stirring it up is not going to be good. As The Clash put it oh so many years ago, "Should I stay or should I go?". Do I get rid of it. Do I wash it? Do I put it into a bucket(s) and just transfer it?

Any help will be appreciated. I will know by end of day.

    TIA.......Rock on.......and Peace.......John.

i would just reuse it, don't wash it, just transfer, your tank may be cloudy for a little while but it should clear up, id throw a hang on the tank filter on to help clear it, but see what others think, i just moved my 75 gallon a couple of weeks ago

ive done a few tank moves in my day and i find it best to transfer sand and rock first, wait a few days or so for things to adjust/clear up, then slowly add the fishies...ive done it this way a few times and had good results. i would keep your sand, no reason to throw it out.

Ditto! Changing might send it into a small cycle, since you're stirring everything up, but it should all be fine. When I did mine, from 55 to 135, I put the rock and sand in with the old and new water and waited for a week or two and then put the critters in, and viola, new home for the critters!:)

I had a leak in my tank last fall after setting it up and had to put all my stuff in tubs as well. I talked to leroy at garf on how to keep all my stuff sand rocks ect. alive wile fixing my tank ( a few days) and his thought was to keep water movement going in the containers with the sand/gravel and rocks as far as fixing a tank leak i always found there is no short cuts i drain my tank cut all the old silicon out and reseal all of it. just trying to fix where the leak was has never worked for me. ;)

when i transfered tanks i used a thin plastic place mat to slide under the sand and take it out in pie slices , and placing them in the new tank basically undisturbed. of course you have to drain the water out first . i switched tanks with live stock and all in like 5 hours and had the new tank filled with everything in it. fish, corals... , did constant water tests and never even noticed a slight spike in parims, just my lucky day proly.
