how to treat a fish injury?

I came back from work and discovered one of my black bar chromis had a fin not moving and had trouble swimming. It had swelling and internal bleeding so I assumed either it got sucked into my powerhead's screen or my clown fish finally got a good swipe. but now I have the black bar chromis secluded in my sump to keep it away from the dangers of my clown and tank mates.

so my question is what is a great method on getting this fish back on the healing path before its too late? I can run down to the LFS in the morning for any medication. If there is any, what would yall use for an injured fish?

hes still swimming and now moving both fins but wasnt moving the injured one when he was in the display. I will keep him in there until he shows good health and then release him back in unless someone has a better method.

 

I like using Melafix. It is reef safe and is a good all around medicine.

 

so Its safe to put in my sump? cooool lol now i feel better. I was afraid I would have to setup a seperate tank with another filter just to hospitalize him. thanks.

 

Yes its safe. Follow the directions on the label. Its good for a varieyt of ailments and seems to work like a charm for most infections. Makes me wanna try this stuff when I have the flu! JK
