hey, I am getting my good lights for my tank on friday so i was wondering how to un attach coral from a rock..

for example, i want to move my Toad Stool that is on my 29G because its getting too big for it... but im afraid it got attached to big rock that i have...

is there a way i can remove it without harming it?

I have sliced and diced these with razor blades with much success.

You can slice the foot off the rock and move the coral - it will look like crap and it will scare you. but this is a very hardy coral that will recover

An alternative would be to frag it out. and end up with severl in your new tank

ON leathers, the only way of removal that I know of is to cut them off. they may peel up.

Seriously? do you have some time on your hands? take smaller rocks and place them round the base, he will attach to them and disconnect from the large rock all on his own -- this will take 4-6 weeks and require your assistance.

Oh and the butcher instincts come out ! I suggest you put on some psycho, nightmare on elm street or perhaps Halloween – all should get you in the mood to slice and dice ;-)

Edit - seriously tho, use a new razor and try to make a clean cut - no hacking at him. cut as close to the rock as possible and transport the new cut submersed. I am not sure if this is imperative but I was told not to let air at the new cut and I never have. these are very hardy and you will be ok
