I wanted coral for my birthday so my mom gave me some money to get some. I know great story. I had the intent of spending a hundred because I found a guy with some nice looking colonies on craigslist.

    I came home with :

    a 7 headed green frogspawn
    a 3 headed purple frogspawn
a zoa colony with around 25 polyps (estimation) its army green and light green
    2 small kenya trees
and a very tiny blue legged hermit that hitch hiked.

all for the low low price of 60 dollars! My small two headed duncan was 25. I've got a long way to go but I think I'm doing fairly well with 6 frags under 100.

yikes look into finding a good local reef club, there are tons of people on mine who give beginner frags away free or dirt cheap and just trim their colonies, a lot of my frags came free or really cheap so i do the same when i have something to spare usually free or if i need some supplies either trade it or sell for cheap

My thing about them is I'm kind of weirded out about having strangers come over to my house and basically judging my tank. Especially since its not done.

i see where you going about that, usually when i get corals i pick them up however ive never had any bad judgement just good help and recommendations and believe me my tank is far from a show tank....i started out with tap when it was a FOWLR and I'm still paying for it now however it has gotten 100x better close to gone ish....I dont tend to deal with arrogant idiots from the local club alot of the people arent all about the money and are more or less just trying to cut their costs...I understand some people payed $50 for 1 polyp of *insert crazy name* but there is no need to charge people $50 a polyp afterward, in my opinion by dropping prices and making more available you are just making ti harder for people to charge ridiculous amounts for coral and making it a more affordable hobby...as for sale of coral I believe it should mostly be trades and sale in certain circumstances like to break even on the coral or help pay for cost of supplies etc but if your in the hobby to make a profit why not be a vendor instead of a hobbyist, you're in the wrong area, ive given some frags free and traded others, never sold anything yet but when i need salt or a replacement membrane for my RO etc then thats where it changes and I give a couple people a good deal lol

you'll see when you have a major crash etc who comes back to help you one day...most people hold onto kind gestures plus it leaves you with a dna bank of coral in a seperate location in case of a crash or wipe out of a colony lol::)

I got my camera out and it appears a battery had exploded in it. White crusty residue all over.... I also found two more hitchhikers a very tiny turbo and a bristle worm which I am going to remove as soon as it rears its ugly head again.
