Hey Adam, your still going strong on your ideas. One thing I might say is to keep the rockscape down to a smaller amount of big rocks vs a bunch of little rocks. I say that because with bigger fish, they need bigger crevaces to swim through and around.8)

Always stay with as fine a sand as you can find and keep the substrate under 1 1/2" thick. These fish poop a great deal and coarse sand leaves too many pockets for deitritus to make a home for themselves. I usually sift through the sand once a week and let the deitritus get into the filtration system and then shortly after that I change the floss. This is work man, no pain no gain!

Dunno about Petsmart but I also didn't use life sand. Used live sand before for my former tanks and am finding that regular sand works fine as long as you cycle the tank long enough before adding any livestock.
..... still waiting for those pics!!!

Sorry to hear that but be rest assured... it's worth waiting for!! I, myself waited for many years to fulfill my dream of having a 110g. Always had Nano's but I guess that helped me learn a lot about this hobby.
So, hang in there.. you shall be rewarded 10000% times!!! And keep me posted!
    The very best to you!

It's best to be fully ready for this venture. One other thought about the sand. A bag of live sand would help the cycle process along with a cured live rock. Don't rush yourself too much. I know the sensation can be overwhelming. Keep reading. Read about all the options of saltwater keeping. Talk to people that are in the know. Learn who you can trust for information.

My friend who uses the avatar of "mnm" here on 3reef has a 110 gal FOWLR. You may want to send him a PM and pick his brain. I bought his old 65g from him on craigslist for my first reef tank a year and a half ago and we've been good friends ever since. He had bought a 140 gal expensive setup by Living Color and transferred his reef from the 65g. Since then he recently sold his 140 and kept his 110 FOWLR. It's hard enough to take care of one tank let alone two. He has big fish in his FOWLR give him a try.
