Hi, though I've had a 180 gal. reef tank for several years, this is my virginal visit as a member of the forum. My tank has gone through good times and bad, more bad lately due to too much work and not enough attention to tank.

I have terrible green algae problem for the last several months.

Doing a few things -- restart a sand bed with macro algae, and finally changing my lights -- 14k 250w DE phoenix currently. Over a year old, however.

I read different opinions (naturally) about impact of lights on hair algae, but need to replace regardless and hope this will help.

I'm looking at buying "PlusRite" DE bulbs, also 14k, online in Ebay from an online store. E

Surprised I haven't seen more posts asking about the quality of these bulbs. Generally it's been good, but people are sceptical of who's doing the commenting.

I'm willing to give it a try --even if they last 6 months, at $24 they're still almost a third cheaper than my Phoenix.

Anyone had experience with these Plusrite MH DE bulbs? And general suggestoins on hair algae, besides the usual -- phosphate reduction; less feeding; more circulation in tank; and of course, light. I have a four foot ETS skimmer that moves about 1200 GPH with an Ewaki motor, so I got that going for me too, yet still have problems. Live rock, too, which I reduced to about 100 lbs from 170 lbs.

I had a 55 gal for a few years and almost never had a big algae problem.

    thanks for your consideration.
