    Afternoon guys an ladies...

Jus' wanted to drop a line to start my threads... "...don't know what I know... but will be glad to help where I can...!"

I know you guys like pix... so lemme get to it this evenin' an I should have some pix of my new Nano... I purchased a O. BQube - 8 gal... she's cyclin' now wit' 6 lbs of LR and 1"+ of LS...

    ===

In th' past I have had FW tanks as a kid - which goes Wayyyy back... and then started with FO marine tanks to scratch my SW itch... and in 1990 I had more money than sense and jumped into a 120 gal. reef.... it was a great experience... since then i changed back to FW in th' big tank due to workin;' out of state and th' country now an then... th' lil' woman didn't kno9w much about SW and then a reef would jus' drive her insane...

so now I have a FW 140 gal... with about a 11" Datanoid (hongry son of a gun... Always...!) and also I'm babysittin my kid's Fire eel approx. 14" long... about 2" thick... big rascal an cool too... he'll come right up and snatch raw shrimp right outta y'ore hands...

when my kid send's for him... i think I'll jump back to makin' the 140 gal a FO marine tank.... will hate to shell out th' cashola for all the equipment... but know it will look kick a$$ when it's done...

my prob is... i have too much taste's and hate to spend th' dough it takes to make it really kick booty... butt I'll end up doin; it tho... it's a curse i have,....

    Adios mi Amigos...

Will follow up with pix soon...

Question if'n yo're still wit' me... While th' tank is cyclin'... can I start with th' "purple up"... to get the Coraline Alge happenin'... it shouldn't hurt anything, huh...?

    Thanx Guys...

Salutations! Glad to see you found way here!

And into the world of SW.

Looks like you have a great tank to move into.

    Howdy and welcome to 3reef!
As for the "Purple Up", I wouldn't worry about it right now as you don't have anything that would benefit from it right now, in my opinion! Coralline algae will not grow with the addition of the Purple Up unless you have some coralline algae established in your tank.

Bienvenidos amigo, glad to have you here. Just to biggy back on what CR said, when your cycling, you dont need to add anything. Let nature take its course and remember to go slow!!!

Thanx for th' advice... an thank ya for the well wishes to th' site...

I have a rock or two with purple coralline but will take my time.... a few of the rocks I got were from another guys tank who had donated th' rock back to th' shop i got it from... only by luck...

In the early 1990's my first tank had 450 lbs. of live rock and it came strait out of the Mediterranean... along with Mantis shrimp as wail...

I've had several differing opinions from reefers at the LFS from 1 week cycling to 6 weeks... anyone wanna jump in on their opinions...

    Thanx again...

Welcome to 3reef, glad to have you aboard. We will wait on the pics...;)

As for Purple up, as long as you keep your Ca, Mg, & ALK stable mother nature will show you coralline when your tank is ready. Once you see that growing you know your tank has cycled.

My 75 took a total of 6 weeks to cycle w/ 40lbs of rock coming from an established tank.
