I'm seriously thinking of getting the HP TouchSmart laptop for college. I'm an Engineering student, so I feel that this style of laptop would be more advantagous to me, than it would be to some other type of student.

Does anyone have experience with these? Pros and cons, advice on upgrades, etc.

I have no experience with them, but I wonder to myself "Why bother?" Except for some very specialized drafting and graphics programs, I think most other programs will work better with a keyboard and mouse. You may find that MathCad/AutoCad/computer-aided design programs are too subtle to fully use the touch screen.

After playing with these in the store, I really like them. The program they come with called "OneNote" allows you to write, type, draw, or even pull pictures from the internet. You can even search your own notes. I find that to be much better than a pen and a spiral notebook. I know I'll still have notebooks with me, but for math and engineering classes, being able to write and draw what I need to, ON A COMPUTER, is highly advantagous IMO. Plus I could install Halo on there and all I'd have to do to kill someone is poke them in the forhead...:D

I think the main advantage I'd have with this computer is that I'm already very familiar with onenote from highschool. So I'd go into it knowing a lot more than the average joe on how it works. Plus, taking notes on my computer would prevent me from getting sidetracked and 3reefing on my computer. :p

Also, you can turn the touchscreen off, where it becomes just a normal laptop anyways. The only reason I'm even considering it is because it's the same price as the HP Pavilion I was planning on getting. So, I decided it'd be a tossup between these two, and I like the TouchSmart better.

They're sweet laptops. I'd get one.
