    No HQI are metal halide. They are completely different things...

    Ok... so could you use a halogen light instead of MH as long as the temperature was correct?

    You probably aren't going to find a halogen bub in the right spectrum. Also, it is very inefficient, basically like an incandescent bulb. So, you would need a heck of a lot of them to get any output. And they run extremely hot, so, you will have heat issues. In short, do not use halogens on a reef....

    Where did you get this idea? Are you thinking of Xenon HID automotive bulbs? That is completely different and some people have converted them successfully. It is not plug and play by any means though.

    I got the idea from the links in my original post, but then again, that bulb will not work with that light fixture. Oh well...

    I guess I don't get it. Your first link is for a 150W MH bulb, your second is for a 500W halogen utility light. Unless I'm missing something, they are 2 completely different things. Anyways though, no, do not use halogen on a reef and halide and halogen are not the same, nor are they interchangeable...
