Sorry about the loss I've killed off my fair share as well things do eventually get better and you get longer patches of smooth sailing

Hm im kinda getting off topic of this thread now, but I just dont get why I have not had success in this hobby. I do as much research as possible before purchasing, i use a skimmer, i use halides, i test for nitrates/nitrites/ammonia, i setup tanks correctly, i have good flow. The only thing that i think is causing my problems still is either my 10000k Bulb (hasnt been changed since last July) or my tapwater here in West Seattle. I dont see anything else i can do for this tank other than use RO/DI and change my bulb......

Switch to RO/DI you will see improvement very quickly. Get a TDS meter im sure you will be surprised how high the number are from the tap water. You have invested so much already and to throw all of that away by not using RO/DI is crazy. BUT Im just saying....

considering im BROKE and thinking about replacing my bulb with a 14k Phoenix (On my credit card.......) i have to wait about a month and a half before i have some money coming in....So getting an RO/DI unit/TDS meter is out of the question at the moment. Once i get a job though, i will.

DING DING DING... RO/DI water will solve your problems, especially if you're doing everything else right as you claim. Even start using RODI from the LFS with your weekly WCs until you can afford a unit will help...

No wonder you aren't having success. Tap water is the devil.

i know i know. I have called every LFS within a 30-40 minute radius of where i live. None of which sell RO/DI. The only place that does is Safeway which sells RO water and i doubt they change those filters much.

Alright. The best I can do right now is to use filtered RO/DI from Safeway. I doubt they change those filters often, but I am the only person i have ever seen fill up from them also. Its 41cents a gallon, so I will start using that water for top offs and water changes from now on. Hopefully this is the true reason so I can finally identify whats wrong with my tank.
