I have a couple crazy shrimp in my tank....skunk cleaner and fire shrimp. Both of them are very active and are always out and about. I've noticed recently that my cleaner shrimp is scavenging my duncan coral. It is irritating it so much that it hardly comes out where it used to be out all the time. Is he starving???

I have 4 fish(coral beauty, yellow wrasse, diamond goby, and maroon clown) and 2 shrimp as well as some cuc. I feed them every other day one cube of shrimp something(can't remember the name). It never seemed to be a problem before, but the cleaner has been getting bigger and has molted quite a bit in the last several months.

Is this as easy as feeding more?

Feeding more is worth a try, but it could just be that he found an easy meal and is not going to give it up.

Try feeding the shrimp directly some larger pieces of food to keep it busy. I've not had this problem, but lots of people do (my cleaner shrimp are the first to get food when I feed, take it directly from the baster). From reading others' experiences, sometimes feeding them directly helps and sometimes it doesn't. One guy put a full piece of shrimp (2, one for each cleaner) in a food clip & that kept them busy LOL.

That's funny. I wouldn't think they had such big appetites.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Once they learn where to get treats you can feed them until the cows come home but they will return to the LPS IMO.

That is one of the major reasons I got rid of my peppermint and cleaner shrimp. My cleaner shrimp actually ripped a head of my duncan apart to get food, despite my best efforts to keep them well feed.

    Damn thats crazy.

On my last tank I had a skunk cleaner shrimp that would eat as much as the fish and more. Once he became full size it was a never ending feeding frenzy for him. The only thing that slowed him down was when I got more fish in the tank.

Are there enough fish in the tank for them to keep busy cleaning them?

I have 2 shrimp and they are crazy too, they run around a feeding time and swim all the way to the top if the tank for food.. When I feed my Anemone they jump right onto the damn thing and try and take the shrimp our of his grasp, so now when I feed him I have to give each shrimp a chunk of food, by hand because they are that crazy, feed my anemone and get in there with hemo's and take the food out as soon as they are finished, all of that and they have yet to eat one aipstesia:). They are pretty funny though.
