Hunts freshwater planted (3-12-2012 new pics)

I do a lot of research when I go into a hobby. I have a planted tank also.;D

 

the mondo grass will to ? bummer ,, pet smart said they would live.. guess thats what i get for lisening to a pet store hu, thanks for the advice. do you have any suggestions for the tank something that looks somewhat like them, i like the look of the tall grass look.

 

ya thats all i do is read about tanks and ect. mostly salt. i just started to read up on planted fresh a few months ago. so i have some more reserch to do

 

Looks good,what are you using for the substrate and lighting..

 

Valisneria are good but a thicker leaf as are Cryptocoryne 'Balansae', C spiralis and C retrospiralis. Isoetes species might interest you.

 

i used black flourite sand, t5ho 6000k and a t5ho plant grow bulbs. i have a few extra bulbs i will be putting on soon they are a 10000k and a 650nm pink roseate t5 ho. I use seachem equilibrium in my rodi water, and seachem flourish

 

Sounds like a nice setup, however I'm still learning about planted tanks. I do have two fresh water tanks each housing a single oscar. I probably won't be able to get away with planting those. One I may but the other oscar will for sure shred everything I put in his tank. He has broken a few things in his tank...

Sorry to hear the pet store steered you in the wrong direction. It is always frustrating when you place trust in someone you should be able to trust and they mislead you.

You and 2in10 sound like me. I read everything I can. This forum is my main source of information but I do read articles and anything else of interest. Take care and good luck.

Looks great! I've had bad experiences with those skinny medium height plants that you have in the front right, they have a very shallow root base and my fish always either pulled them up or they came up on their own so I tossed them.

Sucks those reed plants are not gonna make it, I've been sold plants from Petsmart and PetCo so many times that were not true aquatic plants although they keep them totally submerged!

I couldn't think of the names of my plants that I am trying to recommend for you so I took a picture!!


The small broad leafed grassy plant on the left(micro sword I think) is a pretty low but bushy and lush green short plant that has done amazingly well for me. Also on the right side of the picture there is that medium tall plant which I believe is called "Balansae Plant (Cryptocoryne crispatula)" Although pictures and mine are not really adding up, mine seems more bushy and not as weedy as some pictures I've seen. Both have done amazing with almost no pruning, also I am not running Co2 - If I was I'm sure I would have much better results!

I also have some Java ferns, Moneyworts, Onion bulb that's grown out of control, a few Amazon Swords, and a type of Anubias. It's only a 35g hex with 2 mated angel fish and 1 pleco sucker. 40lb of top notch substrate, aqueon queitflow 50 and a aqueon 35 power head for extra flow. I noticed after putting the power head in that my plants where becoming a lot more lush, and I wonder if its from the simple fact of added water flow made them stronger healthier plants! Because the results of adding a power head in a freshwater tank were awesomeeee!! :~) But over all I think my favorite plant is either the monewort, or balansae plant, or my java ferns. I love the way they sprout new shoots out of the leaves, then you can remove those leaves and plant them or bring them in for small store credit @ the LFS!

ps- your tank is very nice to look at, i love the driftwood! put's my little pieces to shame, haha
