    cinder block walls without rebar and cored with concrete and tied to a good footer are worthless against any lateral pressure, just a sail in the wind at that point.

    most of them had 3/4 inch or thicker rebar every foot or so, just couldnt handle the forces

    There is a town in west Louisiana that got hit by Rita and all the houses were just slabs after the storm, so considering that you live so close to water you did very well. BTW raised pools like that almost always get destroyed.

    my street didnt do so bad because we are zone c, however a lot of the houses in zone a less than a quarter mile from us did not do good at all, a lot of them have caution tape and police blocking people from getting back to them

    Fema can cause a lot of problems, So don't wait for them to help.

    my personal damages arent bad but everyone else i know got it pretty bad

    I'm just cautioning you. A lot of people wait for Fema which is a big mistake, Fema can only do so much and they are corrupt. The best way to recover from a storm is hard work and helping your neighbors. Fema makes recovery a slow and punishing process. There are quite a few people who depend on fema,(not where I live) even if they don't have much damage.
