Hydor has upgraded.

I just received my annual box of Koralia parts and it seems Hydor has upgraded the covers to support the bump stop. From what I can tell they simply reinforced the center ring that holds the bumpstop. Hopefully this will alleviate the issues with the covers breaking.:-/
I just replaced all of mine with the new and improved ones so I will update this thread as to there longevity.

I just received 4 covers last week and they looked the same as before.
I did my reinforcement job on one of them and installed it as I only need one replacement.

I glue a small strip of black plastic on the outside of the grill vertically so it reinforces the bump stop area. Works like a charm.

 

After reading and seeing all the problems people have with the smart wave. I sold mine right away on ebay, brand new. Not worth all the trouble.

 

I remember seeing this thread.Thanks for posting it again.I really have had two covers break since installing my Smartwave. It has given me no issues and no clicking or reversing of PH's.(until the covers break)
I paid less then 100.00 for the SW and 2 Koralia 1050's so it was a no brainer.(Thanks Big Al) I will take some pics of the improved covers.The ones in your pic look like they have the newly reinforced ring.

 

They improved the impeller design as well

 

After doing the modification I sent over 2.6 Million starts and stops with zero problems. The only reason I replaced the 1400's with two new 1400's was impeller wear where it strikes the bump stop. I am thinking the wear reduced the flow slightly or changed the flow dynamics, lucky for me Big Al's had a heck of a sale so the cost was minimal. I replaced both units but did not do the modification so at 5 months a cover broke. They sent me 4 new covers so I added my bracing and we will see if I get another 2+ million starts and stops out of them again.

I believe the impeller improvement is for the Magnum series and not the Evolutions. I could be wrong but the new impellers they sent me were the same.Hydor's customer service is awesome.I asked for 6 covers and 4 impellers and they sent me 8 covers and 6 impellers.;D

 

Lord knows I have enough pieces of plastic and superglue laying around here.

Looks like the same design but maybe thicker plastic rings?? Hydor is sending me 2 covers for the 750 I have now, itll be interesting to see if I get the new covers. Theyre also sending me a new magnetic shaft since my old one froze up for some reason I wonder if itll be the new shaft as I believe the 750 has been replaced with an 800 or 850??
