I'm thinking about getting a simple power alternator like the Marineland NW1000 wave maker.

This thing just switches the outlets on/off on random patterns.

My only concern is that this constant cutting power on/off on normal Koralia and a Nano Koralia will burn the motors out. Is this a valid concern or are the powerheads designed to take this kind of use?

I'll be using a Koralia Evolution Pump - 1050 and Koralia Nano Water Pump 425 in a Solana 34g. I may throw in a Maxijet 400 as a powerhead if I find it's not enough flow.

The Koralia Evolutions are made to be run off of wavemakers. I am running 10 off of wavemakers between 3 tanks :)

Evolutions, nanos and magnums are fine.

Koralia's are notorious for breaking the covers, when added to a wave maker.

FYI, Hydor should send out replacements for broken covers. Out of the 10 I have, 2 have broken covers. I just sent a request to Hydor for new ones.

I haven't had any broken covers. They are a bit noisy though and tend to seize up over time.

I had my nano's on a timer for well over a year. I started having trouble about 3-4 months ago when the covers would crack and then the pumps would run in reverse. I replaced the covers and they still did this until about a week ago when I decided I'd had enough and took the timer/controller off line. Pumps work like normal now.
