I have a tiger pistol, going on 4 months or so. Lost my YWG the first week ( don't know why).

In any event over time I see the pistol more and more.

Tonight this thing is all over my tank literally running around side to side. Doesn't seem to have any purpose to what it is doing, I think it may have grabbed a snail for a moment but is this anything to be concerned about? Is hyperactivity a sign of any type of unrest / discomfort?

I've not discounted that either. Previously it had always just walked on the bottom this time it was climbing the rock work and working through caves.

How long does it take for a shrimp to match up with a new goby?

sometimes immediately, sometimes not at all but usually will quickly. just release the goby near the shrimps burrow and itll probably shoot into it and pair up

my tiger pistol does the same thing. I see him in the day and night doing the same stuff, diggin, picking up snails, hermits, and he tries to pick the same glued down frag every day, while the yellow watchman sits at the entrance waiting for him to go back in the hole.

Provide your shrimp with some extra empty snail shells, rock rubble ect ect...it's looking for reinforcements for it home :) these shrimp are almost totally blind. Hence the need for a protective companion. Safety is crucial!

They really should only sell these critters in pairs,it would make things a lot easier, usually if they pair it's done more sooner 1-3 days than later.

Now that you say that the tank bed is much cleaner. I don't know about protection the thing is like a little bulldozer just plowing over hermit crabs and snails.
    lol

It was sold in a pair with a YWG but the fish for some reason did not survive.
