Even though I'm 6 years into hobby, first time I'm doing hyposalnity. Like all suggested I use Prime to fight ammonia and nitrite. My question is - Prime is detoxifies ammonia and nitrite so they are not harmful for fishes right? So when I test ammonia and nitrite still shows or it should be 0? It is not removing just turn to non toxic or I'm wrong. Please let me know. My ammonia shows 0.25. Nitrate- 0.50.I keep doing water changes.

I have 125 reef but I had to pull out all my 6 fishes because of ich. They are in my 30 gal. Going thru hypo. Started 7 days ago. First ammonia and nitrate where at 0 but after 3 days ammonia start climbing and nitrate now to. I keep changing water and adding Prime. I understand it is cycle. No live rock, nothing, just pvc elbows for hiding. Tests are 2 years old. Like on begining question is Prime just detoxifies not removes or those tests yelling truth and result is really what it is.

If your test kits are that old, I would replace them. Get your water checked someplace else to verify the readings are getting at home. Test kits do go bad and will give you false readings.

    +1

From what others have said (I've never used the product), yes Prime only detoxifies ammonia and the levels are still readable. However, I would still suggest you get a new test kit. You may be dosing Prime and changing water needlessly, which can be overly stressful or even harmful to the fish.

I guess I'm not clear . My only question is " Prime detoxifies it means they (ammonia, nitrite) should not show on ammonia or nitrite tests or by not removing them they can show up on tests but aren't harmfull for fishes.
