I kinda agree with sticksmith on this! Although those are options, doesn't sound right! My toyota did exactly that, and it was a computer issue! Maybe take it to the local dealer and have them reset it for you or at least read it! You can try a very basic reset by disconnecting your battery for a few minutes! The sensors could be it to!

i'd say do the battery disconnect first, the autozone computer read thing next, then take it to the dealership!

I'll just say with many years expriance with cars and living in the desert you would be amazed at what the dry heat and crapy gas can do to a car.

I agree with that, but we are talking about a car revving up when the brake is applied and dying when giving it gas. It just really sounds like a throttle issue.

I just want to throw one more thing out there. JUST my 2 cents. Start with a sensor. If thats not it I believe air, fire, and fuel are where you should go next. Also, and this is along shot, does your car have a break booster system? check on that. If there is a leak in the break booster lines then it WILL cause a rev in the RPMS of a motor upon applying the brakes. Night all!

From Silor: also not true belts first loosen up and that causes timing issues witch cause your car to run lean or rich depending on the ecu and how it handed it also the knock sensor will adjust timings as well so you don't get bent rods... And for 800 or so dollars and the correct mechanic why buy a new car ?

I agree that it could be time to have these belts checked. Its possible they are starting to go bad however, if your timing belt slips it will not run. It may run some, but not correctly and barely if at all. Not a timing belt issue. I like the idea of disconecting the battery. Try that first. Then go with with sensors. Check Oreillys or where ever to see if you can get it diagnosed. DO NOT pay to have your car diagnosed. If a garage wants to charge for this go else where. Wish I could see this in person I think I could narrow it down quickly. Good luck!

check your warranty asap i had a similar issue with my 2002 hyundai sonata there was a defect in the tranny and the tranny was still under their drive train warranty so they replaced it 2x...first time with a refurbed one which was still bad and second time they got it right

also i had a jeep a while back that did the same thing and it was the oxygen sensor

Check the idle air sensor also, if it does it when stopped.

Did it start the stalling and revving right after you changed the battery or before? I had a Mitsubishi Eclipse that if the battery was disconnected and reconnected, it would take several days for the computer to reset and train itself to proper idle adjustment.
