If I truely wanted a lionfish or anyother fish for that matter and something was killing them I would get rid of it before something I really wanted. thats just me.

    Usually lionfish eat the shrimp.

    Not the other way around.

Perhaps your shrimp is taking the aggressive stance to "eat or be eaten"?

how long do they last for you in your tank? one of my lfs corals do great in my tank but their fish never make it,the other lfs is the other way around, corals don't do well for a few months but the fish are always quickly adjust, maybe you could try getting one somewhere else, what have you been feeding them? if i was going to try a lionfish i would set up a 10 gallon just to keep a couple dozen feeder fish in,i wouldnt even try to ween him off live foods for two months or so,after all the stress he's gone through to end up in my tank i would let him adjust a while

I know the feeling, I just lost my first fish (first fish that has died on my I mean) yesterday...a fuzzy dwarf lionfish. Only had him for 4 days and he looked like he was doing really well, he ate a bunch of ghost shrimp and 2 days later he was dead when I woke up in the morning.
