I work at a pet store and take part with one other running the saltwater section. I have a 33G at home, but my pride is the 180 and assortment of other tanks at the store. Last thursday a huge storm hit town and knocked out the power. ive been telling them to get a small generator for the section for years. And what happens. They rent one and it doesnt get here till 24 hours after it went out. First 4 things to go were a blue hippo, a white cheek, a white cheek and a yellow tang. Size to cost was about $750.
Along with the outage. it surged and blew out the ac unit. Once the gen was hooked up, it was still hotter than crap and tank temp rose. Thus killing the countless corals in the tank. 4 rocks of button polyps, zoos and one star polyp lived.
Im not done. but im and highly upset, and now me and my boy brian must start with the 3 damsels and 2 chromis that lived... :(

Seriously, if you have RTN going on or starting on other corals, frag any healthy pieces. Put them in a different tank if you can.

RTN sucks...you either have to start ditching prized coral that might recover or risk everything else...it spread for sure when those levels get high and the corals get stressed.

sorry to hear about all this. floods are always stressful

I have not had a chance to get on last day or two, but I wanted to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH! The support from here really has helped. Everybodies stories and suggestions have really really helped! Gazog, I cant even begin to thank you for the generous offer........I appreciate this much more then you can ever know!

I still havent decided if I am going to put the tank back up, but if I do I should be ok! Curt is managing a fish store now and he is able to get me things at cost......so I am better off then many in my shoes!

K+ for all that has responded....it may be a while before i get to all the karma but I do really appreciate it!

Here is the pictures for today.......

this is the carpeting that is my living room. The carpet is a blue color.....the stains are getting more and more noticiable and bigger. Right now it covers about 1/2 of the living room and smells really nice!

here is the coral that I removed from the tank today! A lot of montis, a beautiful piece of tricolor acro, a deep water acro, along with a frag of duncans (the mother is doing good right now) and various acros. My acans still looks ok just drawn in. I am loosing all my hammers etc. That does not include the corals that I have lost during the transition over...I know several was buried in the rocks and sand that probably got tossed out!

Luckily my fish are doing really well, and are all eating well! I am fortunate that I only have 3 fish!

My prized coral, my chalice are doing ok. My miami has receeded but no signs of RTN. My large lava has some signs of RTN maybe, hard to tell. I am really tempted to have a friend hold on to the chalice for me, however I will not risk their tank with the RTN.

Like I said, still deciding if the tank will go back up. I say NO ABSOLUTELY NOT, however I do admit I go into Curts store and still get excited when I look around!

well until I take the plumbing off and move the tank onto the floor to get a better look, I think my tank has made the decision of whether or not I put it back up for me.........
I removed the remainder part of the sand from the bottom of the tank and was cleaning it getting ready to remove the silicone and I think I see a spider crack going on the bottom of the tank from a middle brace to the middle part of the back of the tank. If this is true then the tank is done

However until we cut the pipes off and move it to the floor I am not sure if it is a crack or just a water collection..but I think it is cracked. My tank has 2 middle braces on the bottom along with the edges. On the one closest to the side of where I saw all the water is what appears to be crack with water between the plastic and glass. The bottom glass on that side has a ton of salt creep on the underside... so we will just have to wait and see

Instead of carpet, go to sams club and buy the laminate wood flooring..it had a lifetime guarentee, and you'll never have to worry about getting it wet, cuz if it gets wet, u just need a towel to wipe it up....i put it thru my ENTIRE house, and I thank myself for it almost every single day!...BTW $1300 did my whole house..so u could probably just do that one room with the tank for like $4-500 or less?

we checked for the leak today, and found 2 places where it leaked, both on the bottom seam. One on the bottom left hand corner seam...and the other where I thought was a crack at the brace, instead what it was doing was leaking right at the brace and running water back along the brace and in front part of the tank. This luckly is fixable. It took about 40g of water to cause enough pressure to start the leak up again and then it just poured out!

I did do something very very dumb when I was in my rush to take everything down! We are going to re-use the sand and wash it off really good. So I took a 5g bucket and a 30g rubbermade container and placed all the sand in there and those are sitting in my kitchen. I placed a towel over them. Last night I removed the towel to look at it and the gasses from it just went through the house and was very nasty! Now it is too heavy to carry outside to wash out without scooping it out (or even to throw it away!) If we scoop it out it will knock all of us on our butt! Maybe I will rent a dolly and carry it out that way! Ohh the smell, can you smell the smell (sorry...saw Leonard Skinnerd in concert a couple weeks ago!)
