I'm glad to hear it's working. The alternative was that we were going to have a hard time solving the problem!

Kevin, So happy it is working, I can only only imagine your relief knowing you are on the way of correcting this long term issue. Once water is completely cleared, I would still run it for awhile to ensure all of it is gone. You can then take it off if you wish and watch to make sure it doesn't return (I think you would be fine then). Some people leave them running but I think that they are mostly the better most expensive ones that help control the parasites. This unit is purely for the blooms. Some people put on a timer and just run a couple times a day. Just toughts

    Glad it's working.

I took my UV offline when I did my 125 to 180 transfer in June 2014.
Then/now, I lent it to a local friend Matt (zesty).

I don't feel I need it now, glad this seemed to clear things up in you tank.

    Thank ya.

No question. I had no glue what to resort to.

Yep. Now I need to get the water chemistry dialed back in. One I begin to notice growth again, I'll set the calcium reactor back up.

I was thinking about running the UV for a week and then taking offline.

Did you run it 24/7 for awhile or just yo correct an issue?

    Appreciate. Glad you were right.

The 9 watt green killing machine at Petco. I have a 24 watt too, but the bulb was dead. Ordered a 9 watt replacement online, but needed a 24 watt.

Bit the bullet and paid the extra $35 for a new unit. Too impatient to wait.

It is good. Tank is clear.

    Great. Tank is clear.

Next project is to balance water chemistry and observe. Once growth returns, I'll turn the calc. Reactor back online.

    Temp: 78
    Sal: 1.027
    Calc: 475 ppm
    Alk: 140 ppm
    Mag: 1600 ppm
    Phos: 0.15

I like to keep calc at 425, mag at 1400 and alk at 170.

I also shortened my photo period. With water clarity improving. I don't want to bleach anything.

BTW, that skimmer cup was rank. It pulled out some black nastiness.
