Im guilty of this as well, since I sell on Ebay I spend alot of time at the site.

Last major purchase was a new light fixture- went from 2-150DE MH w/ 2-54 watt actinincs to 2-250DE MH w/4-65 wat PC Actinics-
I thought my corals would like the upgrade (and they DO!)-plus I wanted more SPS-

I got what I wanted and would recommend that fixture and go head to head with the 1000.00 dollar units I looked at!!!

    Sparky,

I'm suprised that you didn't include "advice of LFS" as one of the options.

My list of recent major purchases is longer than my arm and a lot of things have come into play for my decisions. For most of my choices it has been research on forums; in books by Calfo, and Delbeck & Sprung; and by talking with online vendors and my LFS owner. For alot of it, I did my background research and then talked to the OnLine guys (Preium Aquatics, Bulk Reef Supply) or my LFS (Fish World, Richmond, VA). It their recommnedation was basically in line with the research I'd done (and it usually was) I went with it.

I first learned about the manufacturer of my protein skimmer here on 3reef when a member answer one of my posts. I also learned about the manufacturer of my calcium reactor here on 3reef.

My specific lighting set-up was recommended to me by my LFS but it was well in-line with what I had researched and also heard from Premium Aquatics.

That's a great suggestion, GoToSleep. That's an excellent answer too, thanks! :)

my last purchase was my octo nw200 that I purchased from a friend. Price was a major motivator in that decision.
