I have been waiting for so long to get my new light! For the last 2 1/2 months I have been living with only 1/2 of my tank being lit (actually used my old light for the other half..but not as cool)

So excited to finally get it installed...my living room is finally painted, got my new 135g SW tank (repair that needs to be done is not completed but...), got a new flat panel HDTV....things were starting to look good. I have been working many, many extra hours the last couple days (32 hours in 48 hours) and decided to take a little break tonight and plop on the couch and watch a little TV for a bit before getting more work in......everything goes black....blow a circuit. Alright, go downstairs and flip it back on.

Lights of tank come back on...flip TV back on, blow a circuit again! So now I have a choice...I can watch TV or look at the fish tank...not both at the same time...my life stinks! What is even worse is the idiotic moroon who wired my house placed the entire living room on the same circuit so I can not split the load! And I dont even have any extra stuff wired up to the tank....I had no lights on in my living room...nothing I could turn off!:bigcry: I am just screwed!

You could put in a bigger breaker, if the one you have in there now is not to big, you'll wanna check local building codes, and may want to have a electrician look at it.

dont chang that breaker it will be rated to the cable and you could burn down the place. Run the extention cord from another room till you can add another line

Should be able to add another breaker and take some of the living room stuff off of the over loaded one and put it on the other breaker...purdy simple...but if ya dont know whats up...best have an electrician do it....but they are spendy.
are you california...? I know people in the trades all over the place.

When was the house built for starters. I am remodeling my house at the moment and I am replacing the whole electrical system. Old crappy wiring can only hold so much current. So replacing a breaker for a bigger one is a catastrophe in the making.

The house is like 25 years old and if the wiring is anything like the dry-walls I guarantee they are crappy wires. I already had a fire in my tank back in May from a faulty powerstrip so I am very, very nervous when it comes to this stuff.

I did think of this...the majority of time that I watch tv is in the eve...so I did just set up the timers and have the halides kick off at 6 (run 1-6), the acentics kick off at 8 until 12pm (those are on a funny schedule) and the LEDS come on at 8 until 11...the LEDs are very, very low energy...so if I ever do want to watch TV when halides are on I will just have to manually turn them off . But the LEDS are cool on...and then I dont have to worry so much about having to put suntan lotion and sunglasses on to watch TV! Havent tried it yet...but it should work.

It is cool to have all this new stuff...but it still sucks that I have to think about this stuff. Before I got this tank I had a lot of extra stuff running on my smaller tank (75g) (dont know exactly why I had more in the smaller tank???) but when I got the chiller right before the switch it blew the circuit and I had to run an orange extension cord from my living room to the kitchen...yeah that was very attractive I have to admit! All I needed was a couch and a car in my front yard!!;D A couple days later the fire happened and I then went barebones for a couple weeks!

I do have those ground fault powerstrips installed on my tank and smoke alarm right above my tank....(the other concern is that they have so much flow running through the sump that there is a constant mist coming from the sump, major microbubbles in tank and saltcreep is building up on everything....) That is the other repair that is taking longer! Electrical cords are positioned at either sides of the tank...so that the saltcreep does not get on the cords..but there is a refuge light that I worry of!

    I will stop rambling..very very tired!!;D

if you have aluminum wiring which you may have in a 25 year old house you need to get it inspected anyway, I'd say get an electrician to look it over and make some recommendations, $ shouldn't be a factor when your familie's safety is involved
