Which is why I told him to check with an electrican, but sometimes breakers get old and weak, I have replaced them a hundred times.

During the day when you are working in your office, why don't you fire up the left light for a couple of hours, both lights for 2 hours, and then only the right light for a couple of hours.

Basically, you are simulating the suns movement during the day. A lot of people buy expensive motorized light rails that do just this. However, because you have a left and right light, you can do it with a cheap timer.

I am speaking from the perspective of being an electrical contractor here is what I would suggest for now run a cord from another room but I would strongly suggest running a seperate circuit from the electrical panel directly to the tank and putting in a dedicated outlet or quad (double outlet) on its own 20 amp circuit I went through this in my own house I had a breaker trip when I was out of town and I lost my whole tank as a result. I have since run a dedicated circuit for my tank. I would give you an estimate but I am in NJ and my travel expenses would be a little high LOL. I am going to tell you that a conservative estimate to have this done based on me having not seen your house will be in the neighborhood of $300 bucks give or take. I think you would agree that losing the tank because you were not home to reset the breaker would be even more costly.

I definately agree....whatever the cost is much less expensive then loosing a tank or God-forbid burning the place down! I am single so dont worry about a family....but I have my puppies to worry about ;D

Shoot, I might have to fly you up here to St. Louis...have not priced electricians but if anything like plumbers here..... being the girl that I am I had a leaky faucet and decided it was easier to hire a plumber to replace a couple faucets a couple years back....OMG...I would have loved to have only paid $300....they saw sucker on my face! There was a little more work then just faucet replacement...had a water pressure issue also but I am definately in the wrong field.

Schackmel, go to the Lowe's, or home depot or the local library for a book on basic electrical wiring. read up on it, then call the electrician and when he comes tell him exactly what you want in his terms or language... If you are talking their language and they see you understand what they are talking about you have much better chance of not getting screwed.

My daughter walked into a tire place and said she needs tires for her car. They tried to sell her the most expensive tires they had (not knowing that I had gone in there a few days before). She then told them what she wanted and they that they would not work on her car and she handed them the quote I had gotten a few days before! Needless to say she got them installed and for free at that......

Now back to your original post, call an electrician, don't change breakers, don't run extension cord. Do it right the first time no matter what it costs.....

I feel your pain. Probably the same "maroons" who wired my house. Typically they put parts of several rooms on one circuit and had other circuits with nothing attached except "live" bare-end wires rolled up in the attic- talk about a fire hazard. I'm in the process of renovating everything, so a lot of my house is bare studs. You wanna talk ghetto? I only have about two-thirds of the house re-wired, so the front third runs off of extension cords. Really impressive when friends or family come to visit.
