Since formalin sounds risky, will the fish be ok in QT the full 8 weeks while the main tank clears? Or after they are cured in the QT they have to be removed to yet another QT? Do I need to clear the formalin out of the water like you mentioned after they are cured with them in it? I have skimmers on all tanks I own except the 1.3gal and airstones are'nt a problem (I am a bubble addict to a safe degree). I also know all about fish traps and that's what I use as well. If in fact the pH, ammonia, or nitrite get out of control do I use the normal methods of handling those? I ordered Formalin, so this is the route I am taking for sure.

Also, sorry for all the questions and thanks heaps for the information, I am determined to get ahold of this parasite before it runs me out of the hobby (again).

Don't apologize; I'd much rather have someone ask questions than take a blind leap, or wait for one opinion that they agree with and go with it against the advice of 5 other people.

I should be ok with the ammonia as I bought an ammonia reducer at the start of all this craziness. My husband wants to now buy a 10gal. tomorrow to treat just the wrasse and put the other 3 fish into the Nano while we wait out the 8 weeks. I think he is under the impression he does'nt want to medicate the fish that are not showing symptoms. Then if, during the 8 weeks any of them do, we can swap them to the 10gal. for treatment. Is'nt this ultimately just putting Ich back into the Main tank because are'nt those other 3 seemingly healthy fish still carriers?

The nano probably has ich in it, at some point in the ich life cycle. Every fish needs to get treated.

Inspection won't guarantee nearly anything. Ich will burrow into the fish 3-4 days before you see white spots (the cyst that forms around the actual parasite) on the fish, they can have the ich in their gills where you can't see anyway, you can get the ich with a single drop of water (one extremely unlucky drop of water, mind you) from an infected tank (including with a coral kept in a tank with fish)...

Now I see why I despise this parasite. This was what I was afraid of. I guess this just leads me to my final conclusion that I need to treat or watch each new fish for a period of time before going into the main tank, basic 101 and I failed miserably. Any final tips on acclimating/dosing a new fish? I could'nt bare doing this 8 week thing over and over if Ich is'nt preventable in my main tank.

Yeah, without a doubt my LFS (Jack's Aquarium) has issues. Sadly the only one within radius of me. I've been to a few others also, and I am sure it's the same thing everywhere. I think Ich and any other fungus/parasite needs to be treated before going into a main tank, or at least this is what I am trying to determine now in this thread and the proper method of doing it.

Great info! I am not sure whether my blue hippo is developing itch... he has a couple of white spots on one side.. so I hope it will be ok.
Either way.. thanks for the thread, I think a lot of people can benefit from it!
