Yep, my coralife digital has been accurate so far. I like it because it's so easy to read - every time walk by the tank, pretty much.

But, just like you, I keep a floater in the sump and double check it regularly. Everything electronic will fail - the only question is when.

I was wondering about some good coated magnets myself, so this is really just kind of a thread tag.:)

You would think that a magnet replacement for a suction cup would be a pretty common product. Maybe a small magnet just wouldn't have the power to hold through the glass. Not sure what the deal is.

I'll probably just move mine to the sump. I really only check on really hot days and once a week while doing all my tests. I do like the idea of the Coralife thermometer. I've heard lots f horror stories though. Maybe they fixed the problems.

Why not just keep it in your sump?

steve, that is genius in its simplicity. obvious. never occurred to me. thank you very much. i will most likely do this ;)

what i did do, was take it out and put one of the ones that are like a sticker on the outside glass that can be peeled off up in a corner. every time i run my tests i drop suction cup thermometer in to make sure the sticker is still accurate. so far, so good.

Good question. The sump is always dark so I would have to take it out to read it. The truth is I always take the one out of the tank to read anyway because I usually avto scrape off coraline with my fingernail. I guess it's just the old paradigm thing. I have one in my fuge but tat one is heavily guarded by algae and bristleworms.

We just have one that sinks to the bottom.. it stays up right and usually it is in the front of the tank.. Sometimes it will move about the tank but we can always read it.. It was cheap to.. I think we spent $6 on it.. maybe less..
