I change my mechanical filter fine white one.

i remove the fine white mechanical filter and i putt new one. old filter pad was green. i hope i didn't do anything wrong but i left the black coarse mechanical filter which i cut down half of it a week ago. that was for the bubbles. is it normal to have that green bloom turf algae after 6 week and no purple yet. am i cleaning and feeding my tank a lot? everyday.

 

The white filter floss should be changed once a month...

 

Personally, I believe any mechanical filter should be changed weekly if not more often. Why give the crap that's filtered out time to decompose and add to the dissolved nutrient in the tank.

 

I agree or better yet just get rid of the filter all together.

just give the sponge a good clean out every week then change every month, really depends on how that particular tank is coping...
It can be pricey to have to change the filter every week or more often, but what works for me may not work for you...

 

Amen. The poster before is right on the money too. Items filtered out by mechanical means are in a perfect scenario to give up their chemical components right back into the system. Water is flowing by rapidly, adding oxygen to the equation, aiding decomposition.

I've gotten rid of my mechanical filtration. The filter feeders in my tank like sponges and dusters love me for it.
