There are external skimmers on the market that can be plumbed next to the sump if you can't slide one through the gap of the top of the sump and the bottom of your stand.

I feel your pain. What I did and it should work. I have a PM refugium and I had no room to put my skimmer in the refugium and I have no room to add a sump. I installed a couple of bulkhead fittings on refugium, 1 at the bottom and one at the water level for my skimmer to return back to. I have an aqua c ev 120 so it will work in or out of water. The only problem I am having now is to fine tune the noise coming from the overflow's. Which I did witht the valves I installed but need to get it just right so the flow from the overflow's keep up with the return pump or else the DT's water level could overflow. Good thing I am doing this in the garage. LOL...........

The easiest thing to do I think is a Hang on back skimmer on the sump. (Black ravens idea.)
Get the exact measurements of your sump, the free space in it (footprint), and the space between the top of the sump and bottom of the stand, then we can go from there! Good luck and hopefully we didn't make it more confusing!

I sort of get the Idea.. on the HOB skimmer on the sump.. but the water level doesnt reach the top ( see the pic.. its pretty much like that all the time)..

also... how do i do it so that i dont run out of water in the sump?
because the HOB will suck the water into it and replace it back into the sump right?
but it will take some time to do it? or is it almost instantaneous?
I ask because the Return pump will keep sucking in water and if the skimmer is sucking even more and not returning it fast enough my Sump will run out of water.. If that makes any sence at all?

with that problem solved...... having the issue of space resolved..

which is a good HOB skimmer that i can use for my 150G tank? ( i want it to be rated a bit more than 150G.. maybe one for like 300+... not sure how this will work.

The only time that's an issue is when you first start the skimmer. The rest of the time, the skimmer will be putting back exactly the amount that it takes out, constantly.

OHHH...GEEEENIOUUSSSS:eek::eek::eek::eek: i need to send this to my LFS and see what they say about it..

i think though if i were to cut it like that it will break.. since the stand is made by individual pieces of wood stacked. cant really explain.. but ill save that link and ask them about it.
