    Wow, really sorry to read this!! But you can learn from this so it won't happen again. I think you should go with two smaller heaters. I've read that's safest.

    And like you said, this is a good opportunity to make some changes. Good luck! Let us know your progress.

    2 gives you even heating which is nice too. i had a heater break, mine electrocuted me after killing some fish, so you are a step ahead of where i was.
