After a recent trip to the lfs my wife decided to surprise me with a couple of additions for her/our tank. She also surprised me by having no idea as to the actual types our new pets, a mushroom and some type of coral. After searching for a while on the web with no luck , I could really use a positive I.D. on the pair. I've attached a couple of pics for your perusal. Thanks in advance

    Jonathon's ID's are correct.

However, I'm concerned with your trumpet coral. Is it really that bright greenish yellow? If so, it's unfortunately been dyed and it won't live long. On the other hand, it just might be the coloration of the picture.

I have had one that color for six months and it's reproducing nicely so hopefully yours is just fine!

    thanks

Thanks for the info folks, I really appreciate it. By the way, we introduced a couple of damsels into the tank and I was wondering when or if there would be an ammonia spike from the first fish introduction?

I knew this website would have uber folks like you all... I am in the process of moving my tank this weekend...but I need a ton of corals Identified....my lfs (plural) suck major ditritus.

I got so many acropara "sp.!!!" lol ... they sell em but anything hard for the most part is acropora...lol...wheather it is or not. You would think as much money that is in the Seattle area there would be some uber shops...but NO!!! (and the attitiudes they have..yuck!!) Best store so far I have found in the state is 5 hours away....auquatic dreams (spokane washington)...sweet stuff and smart folks...but 5 hours...lol u got to be kidding me...I go there for business but make sure to stock up when there now.

I got this sweet mushroom they say is ricordia from an lfs locally...which I know is probably not... as for I have a couple types of ricordia already...but it is huge and sweet looking so I got it anyways but wish to know what it is anyways.

I keep loving this site more and more!!

Kevin Pockell owns Aquatic Dreams. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable, he's also an extremely nice guy.

As far as other Seattle stores, send szidls a PM. Scott lives there and I'm sure he can help you. (PS....he's an extremely nice guy too).

does szidls work out of a shop or a 3reef member only? Yeah Aquatic dreams good people dad and son shop...got to love family run businesses. yes then as you know kevin...i have many of his corals in my tank...and currently the only place i buy new corals from locally (well we will call it semi locally...lol)..other then internet pick ups. My close ranged stores suck...and mostly obtain bristle worms or aptasia when u buy from them... one store sells anenomie rocks...that is nothing but aptasia...lol. I have this uber turquise coral from aquatic dreams that i need identified because his younger son was running it when dad was out on a sea trip with his older son who is in the navy...never seen one this color in any other store, super cool acro of some sort i think.

soon as i move my tank..and get things stable again i will be asking for your help :)

Scott doesn't own a shop but he's been doing this for a while and is quite intelligent. Between him, his wife, and his daughter, they probably have 12 tanks. He's going to be able to hook you up with the best local shops.

Additionally, join the Puget Sound Aquarium Society. His wife is president of that reef club and you'll be able to trade frags that way. Puget Sound Aquarium Society At a minimum, join just to get the discounts at all of these stores. Puget Sound Aquarium Society

I'll take a stab at the coral without the picture. Acropora tortuosa (Blue Tort).
