    started to get this on my sand aabout a weeks ago. Now its starting to tie up some polyps. brown red makes long strings. only on sand right now.

    some hermits and some turbos and some of the chinees hat snails 3 green emralds

    Definitely red slime algae.
    What are your nitrate readings?
    How long has the tank been running?
    How long and what type of lights do you have?

    Nassarius will sometimes take care of this...
    One way if it gets bad.. is to go lights out.. I have seen some do this

    red slime make loong strands that blow in current and tie up coral polyps?

    What are your NO3 and PO4 readings? Until you get rid of it i would feed less and maybe add some more hermits

    Those are good lights. But what wattage? and How long do you keep them on per day?
    Your nitrates are good so that's definitely not the case.

    Yes they do. I had a really bad case of it a couple weeks ago. For me, it was because I had the incorrect light (6,400K MH) and my lights were on too long.
